1、创作背景

《皇帝的新装》原本是从中世纪西班牙民间故事移植而来。西班牙作家塞万提斯也曾在其戏剧中运用过这个素材。故事的结局是那个国王光着身子在朝臣和全城百姓面前走过，大家都噤若寒蝉、不吭一声。

安徒生改写时，在结尾处让一个孩子喊出了“他没有穿衣服”这句真话。这篇故事写于1837年，和同年写的另一起童话《海的女儿》合成一本小集子出版。
